Activity Instructions

For a card for Mom, provide kids templates to use to cut flowers from cardstock. Encourage children to use assorted colors to create pretty petals and flower centers. Remind them not to forget the stems and leaves! After kids have glued their flower parts together, they can choose to glue them onto a sheet of folded cardstock or present the flowers in a paper vase.

To make a vase, fold a narrow strip down the length of a piece of cardstock. Then fold the sheet in half. Repeat, folding in half again and create a box shape. Secure the box by gluing the tab to the inside edge of the nearest rectangle. Show children how to glue flower stems to the insides or outsides of the box. Help them write a message to mom. Consider fun messages that incorporate the flower theme like, "You make me bloom!"

To make a card for Dad, print out the activity template and use it to trace the shape of a tie onto cardstock. Have kids cut out the tie and decorate with markers. Children might also want to cut strips from different colors of cardstock, and then glue them onto the tie as stripes Glue the tie onto a second sheet of cardstock folded in half.

Help kids write a Father's Day message inside. Kids might want to incorporate the tie in their message using a word like "tieriffic" for terrific.

Craft Mom Feedback

This card idea with the stencils gives a bit more structure and it helped my child think up more of what they wanted to do with the card by choosing one of the provided stencils. Using the stencils makes is more interesting and helps with creativity, too. These stencils are unique. This was very fun for my child.
