Family Movie Night

To create family bonds, open lines of communication, and hold dialogue on important social issues, personal opinions, and expression of feelings. Seeing the right moview together can get kids talking about issues without them thinking your trying to teach them a life lesson.

Activity Instructions:

Pick a movie that has a valuable message, such as:

  • "The Blind Side"
  • "Bend It Like Beckham"
  • "Where the Red Fern Grows"

Set the stage for your movie night by ensuring that there are no interruptions. Before the movie begins, explain your purpose in choosing the movie and mention that you will discuss it after viewing. During the movie, encourage kids to think of questions or important points that impact them and have them write their thoughts down in a notebook that you'll keep at hand. Provide an intermission to use the bathroom or get a fresh snack supply. Make sure to allow for adequate discussion time after the movie ends.

  • Pen or pencil

Your family will have the opportunity to discuss important issues and their feelings on topics that affect life in general.
