Parent Goals
To help parents set and achieve monthly goals, both as parents and as a couple.
Activity Instructions:
Look at the big picture first. What is your long-term, shared vision for your family, and for your relationship. Create a two- to five-year plan to set and reach future goals. Some examples of areas you can focus on include:
- Communication
- Discipline
- Spending time together as a couple
- Vacations
- Attitudes
- Entertainment
- Physical, spiritual and financial well-being
- Community service
- Education
- Extracurricular activities
Brainstorm each category, and choose one or two to focus in on. Keep trimming back until you end up with a small number of significant goals. To create some short-term goals under the above categories, look at your short-term vision. What can you break up into smaller chunks? Once you identify the smaller goals, create action steps to implement on a daily or weekly basis.
Materials:
- Writing materials
- Large paper or whiteboard (helpful, but not necessary)
Outcome:
This activity provides structure for parents to create goals and work toward achieving their desired vision for the family. It also improves communication and helps in maintaining accountability.
