Kidz Pointz is a very popular source for children's behavioral chars. Whatever the age or grade, they have a chart for it. The only problem with behavioral charts is that older students feel like they are being indirectly talked down to when a teacher or a student uses a behavior chart with puppy dogs, kittens, or balloons. No problem here. For boys in particular, try a construction behavioral chart featuring a road grader. Many young people of that age can see themselves in the future driving a road grader, so this is the perfect chart to use. The chart, which is free, and is as close to a parent or teacher printer, is a weekly chart that allows up to 10 behaviors to be tracked. You choose the behaviors, and while educators recommend that the behaviors being worked on be a collaboration between the parent or teacher and the student, there's no problem with throwing in a few easy zinger behaviors as long as the key behaviors are being worked on. In fact, just to get older kids excited in a chart, some easy behaviors to rack up points are probably necessary. Agree that older children get a reward for earning so many points in a week, say an extra hour of TV on the weekend and that a collection of points over several weeks will earn them a new video game or other cherished prizes. Try this behavioral chart and see if it works for you and your student.
